Not a whole lot to report. We to the football game and watched the weirdest win for the Buckeyes I have seen in person. We sat around and played Super Smash Brothers Melee (and Sue kicked my ass) on Sunday. This week, I have been varnishing the shelves in the garage and Sue has been doing laundry, Darcy has helped with nothing, stupid dog.
threaded rod dvd shelves
Jan 9
This Christmas we amassed enough DVDs that they would not fit on our old shelf. So while I was home at my parents, Dad helped rough out boards for my new set of threaded rod shelves.
I had previously made three previous sets, with one for the tv and components, one for books and one for cds and dvds. Basically the idea for these shelving systems is that the verticals for the selves are threaded rod with nuts and washers. It is rather simple to make.
1. Cut out desired shelf size.
2. Drill four holes on corners of shelves.
3. Sand and varnish shelves.
3. Spend day spinning nuts on long lengths of rod.
4. Level and Tighten
With the lumber coming out of my parent’s woods, it was free to me. The only cost was the threaded rod and the other hardware. The 6′ threaded rod was hard to find the last time, so this time I ordered everything from McMaster-Carr and it arrived the next day.
The idea came from the internet from a couple of different places namely here and a guy who sold “Elephantproof Bookshelves”, but must have gone out of business because I can’t find him any where on the internets.
